Spread the Cheer and Get Your Christmas Tree Here
One of the most prominent symbols of the holidays is a Christmas tree. The family tradition of going out to get a tree and decorating it at home is a fantastic activity during this remote time.
This holiday season North Country Local really wants to emphasize the importance of shopping local. Especially with the year everyone has had, we want to not only stay safe by limiting travel, but also strengthen our community by supporting the small businesses around us. From buying presents to holiday décor, we hope you take the opportunity to spread the cheer locally.
To support the local community, you could purchase your tree from a local retailer, such as Lancaster Floral and Design in Lancaster, NH. They have a variety of trees including table toppers, 5’-6’, and 7’-8’. Find them online at https://www.facebook.com/LancasterFloral.
You can also purchase trees from a local tree farm. To make it more personal, you could take your family to cut a tree down together. The Rocks Estate in Bethlehem, NH is a pick and cut farm. This year, they require online registration, which can be found at forestsociety.org/the-rocks/farm/harvest. The Oleson’s Tree Farm in Jefferson, NH is a pick and cut, also selling wreaths and holiday sprays! https://www.facebook.com/olesonstreefarm. In Wheelock, VT, check out Pineberry Farm at http://pineberryfarm.com/, which has been producing trees for over half a century! Beloin Christmas Tree Farm in Colebrook, NH is another one with a variety of trees.
The White Mountain National Forest sells Christmas Tree Permits for just $5.00, allowing your family to hike through the forest and find the perfect tree for your home. Buy a permit online at https://www.recreation.gov/tree-permits/ or at the White Mountain National Forest Office. And any fourth or fifth grade student in New Hampshire is eligible for a free Christmas Tree through the National Forest Service! They are offering to exchange student vouchers from the national Every Kid Outdoors Initiative for Christmas Tree permits. These can be acquired online at https://everykidoutdoors.gov.
As for decorations, there are many local creators that make ornaments. This is a way to shop local and have beautiful handmade items that you can use year after year. You could also make your own, and involve the kids for personal, heartfelt pieces. It is also fun and easy to make your own wreaths, and holiday sprays and swags!
We hope you stay safe, happy, and local this holiday season. Be on the lookout for a NCL Holiday Hunt sticker on the window of your favorite businesses, and don’t forget to snap a selfie with it and upload to our website for a chance to win a local holiday gift basket!
