North Country Bandstands
As the summer season winds down we want to take a moment to take a look at the center of activity in many of our beautiful small towns. Quite a few are lucky to still have a center common, green or park. And even luckier is that those places also are still home to a community structure that holds the heartbeat of our towns. The Town Bandstand.
This year we had many opportunities to come out once again and enjoy events together in these lovely places. We saw Farmers Markets and seasonal celebrations as well as dedicated concerts and performances return to our communities.
Lancaster Bandstand
The Bandstand located in the center of Centennial Park was made possible by a gift of $1000 from the Colonel Town Spending Committee to the Town Band. They chose to use the funds to build a proper performance are to improve the experience for both musician and audience. The Bandstand was built in 1931 and has host a wide variety of performances ever since.
Whitefield Gazebo
Located in the middle of town, one finds the picturesque King’s Square and Gazebo. This community area was gifted by Asa King as a place for the local children to play. Over the years it has hosted grand Ice Scupltures, Carriage Parades, and even saw the Circus come thru town! The Gazebo is now used primarily as the Information Booth, and of course as the anchor point in the center of the winter Ice Skating Rink. Through extensive research we uncovered that the Gazebo was also in fact built to host the performances of the Town Band…way back in 1875!
Bethlehem Gazebo
Bethlehem has been a beautiful destination for thousands of travellers over hundreds of years. The many that have passed through have been welcomed with beautiful sights, amazing hospitality, and also top notch musical performances. The Bethlehem Gazebo is another local favorite that has continued serving the community with an ongoing series of summer concerts held on Sundays.
