Amelia & Richard Ledoux, Whitefield
Richard and I met in December of 2010 while I was home on college break. Turns out one of my best friends, is his cousin! We went bowling with a large group of people, except Richard didn't bowl because he couldn't. My (then future) husband had recently suffered a life-altering injury when he severed three fingers working in a factory. At the end of our bowling trip, he walked over to me and asked me to help him zip his sweatshirt; he couldn't because his hand was still fully cast. He got me, hook, line, and sinker. I went back to school and two months later he officially asked me to be his girlfriend. We did the long-distance relationship thing while I continued with school until graduation in 2013. Another year of dating until March of 2014. Richard had been very distant with me and I honestly thought he was set up to break my heart. He told me he was picking me up to go to dinner "someplace fancy" and to dress up. He surprised me by taking me to the Wine Cellar at the Mountain View Grand. I could tell he was extremely nervous the entire dinner! Towards the end of the night, he got up from his chair and came to my side of the table. He got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. We were married in September of 2015 at The Common Man Inn in Plymouth. We now have two boys (ages 3.5 and 1). Every year on our anniversary, he takes me to dinner at The Common Man in Plymouth; it's a wonderful tradition that I sincerely hope continues for many years to come.
Michelle Reagan, North Haverhill, Nh
We met at work. Even though we were both ending previous relationships at the time, we immediately fell for each other. His mother was key in the proposal. While visiting her one day, she asked if he had asked me to marry him yet. I said no. Later that night, he said will you? I was like, will I what? I of course said yes. Since then he has made up for that proposal by being the most romantic guy. 22 years and counting.

So how did my love and best friend who has been in my life for 36 years (more than 1/2 of my time on this earth) propose marraige? It certainly wasn't your typical proposal. We had worked together for many years and had become very good friends. Both of us had been married before and after a year or so of being a couple we decided to move in together and blend our families. I had a son and daughter ages 4 and 1 and he had 2 sons ages 8 and 4. We became the Brady Bunch for sure. Since we both had been married before, we were a bit hesitant to take the final step. My sister was getting married in October 1988 and due to child care issues Fred did not attend and had kid duty instead. I attended the wedding alone and ended up catching the bouquet. I arrived home and announced that I had caught the bouquet and you know what that means. Fred replied " OK so when do you want to do it/" I was totally taken aback and replied, "I don't know. When do you want to do it?" He said 3 months! So that is how we came to be married on January 14th 1989 almost 3 months to the day from my sister's wedding. It was a church wedding with just our children and best man and maid of honor in attendance. Fred adopted as his own my two children the following year and we just celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary. We have seen all of our kids grow up and get married and give us 7 beautiful grandchildren. I was blessed to marry this good man and look forward to the rest of our lives together.
Shelia & Jason Humphrey , Littleton
Jason wanted to propose at a fancy dinner he had reserved for us at the sunset hill house. The only problem? The ring was super late shipping it took almost two months for it to come in. So the dinner came and went. About a month later I was doing laundry and I asked him if he wanted me to throw his jacket in. Without waiting for him to answer I picked it up and started pulling things out of the pockets. As he was frantically coming into the room I pulled out ring box. Without missing a beat he grabbed to box from my hands, threw his arm around my shoulder and said “will you may me?” Of course I said yes!

It was Valentine's Day 2008. I was 17 and living with my mom in Groveton, NH. My boyfriend Jake was 18 and lived in Stratford. He picked me up and told me he was taking me to his Nana's house, which we often did to hang out. When we went inside, our friend Brandon was cooking us a special dinner which my boyfriend asked him to make. We sat down to a nice meal together. He then asked me to go for a ride with him. We drove to a beautiful waterfall in Colebrook that we often went to. We sat on the hood of his car and we sat there quietly for a few moments. He then hugged me and whispered into my ear, "will you marry me?" And I replied, "of course I will." We have now been married for 13 years and we have a beautiful life and a 10 year old daughter!
Elizabeth Santy, Littleton Nh
My husband and I met in October of 2006 and instantly became best friends. We decided to start dating 4 months after we met in February 2007. In July 2007 just 5 months after we started dating and 9 months after we met my husband proposed to me in front of my family. He put my ring in the bottom of a champagne glass, got down on 1 knee and asked me to marry him!! We got married in October 2008 and have been married for 13 years and have 2 beautiful daughters❤
Jacob Aldrich, Littleton
Whitney and I met online back in June of 2015, we talked for about a week when we agreed to hang out, she's originally from Littleton while I'm from the lyndonville, VT area. Saying there was an instant connection between us would be an understatement, enough so that shortly after we saw each other she had to run home quickly and I ended up waiting for her for a few hours. We first got engaged in March of 2017, but a lot of miscommunication caused us to separate in early 2020. Realizing how much we actually loved each other, and after some work, we came back together in June of 2021, and I asked her to marry me again, she wanted to do something small and quick, not wanting to wait for a bigger ceremony, so I made plans, told her the day we were going to get married, but kept the location and everything a surprise. That morning we both got ready and I brought her to get our license, unbeknownst to her that the location was right up the road as well. By early afternoon on September 7th 2021 we were married.

My, now fiancé, had a Monday off and we decided to go to the Texas Roadhouse for dinner. We both ordered a drink and then our dinner. Before our food came we had finished our first round and I needed to use the restroom. He asked me if I wanted another, if the waitress stopped by while i was gone. I said "yes, please! Surprise me." So off I went and when I came back and sat down the waitress hadn’t been back yet so I got to order my next drink and our dinner had arrived. We started eating and then she brings out our drinks. I take a sip, it’s a mango margarita?, I then turned my head to look at something and Johnathan reached across the table and put something on my drink straw. I look and it’s a ring. There were some laughs and tears but in the end I said "yes!"
Christopher & Melissa Lyon, Saint Johnsbury
I met my husband when we were 12 & 13. I was his sisters best friend and he was the "hot older brother". We dated for awhile back then but his family relocated and we went many years without seeing each other. When I was 20 I went out with friends and as I was walking threw the crowd, I felt a tap on my shoulder and there he was, we instantly started talking and made plans to catch up a few days later. We spent so much time talking about future, our goals and what we looked forward to with each other. As they say "right person, wrong time" we ended things and it wasn't until years later a mutual friend came to me and said "hey guess who was asking about you today" and again a spark in my heart flew and the next thing you know, we were inseparable! After spending a few years building a life, my birthday rolled around. He told me to dress up and he wanted to take me out. I knew something was up because my calm, easy going guy was acting nervous and anxious. We took a ride, it was warm fall day. He took me to one of our favorite places. When we got there, I started walking to the restaurant, and he called to me and as I turned to face him he was standing there with the ring in hand and getting down on one knee. He sweetly told me how he hadn't ever loved anyone like he loves me. He told me I was a beautiful person and an amazing partner. He said he didn't want to go anywhere ever again as my boyfriend but wanted to walk into the restaurant as my future husband. I obviously told him yes (and told him to get up, because he did this in front of a large window of people) haha but with 20 years of friendship and 8 years of love, I can't imagine my life without him. I'd love to be able to give him this gift, because he's given me so much.

In November 2017, our family had just experienced a challenging few months but had come through triumphant on the other side. My soulmate, Andrew, and I wanted to celebrate, and beat the cold, with a vacation to Costa Rica. We rented a gorgeous house on a cliff overlooking the sea. On a hike to a hidden waterfall, Andrew got down on one knee and told me that I was the first person who ever truly KNOWS him. He said he had never before, and will never again, know a love like this. I of course said yes and grabbed him. He was relieved to stand up because the rock he was kneeling on under the waterfall was covered in thousands of tiny, sharp hermit crabs. Then, the ring didn't QUITE fit all the way on my finger because my hands were swollen in the tropical humidity (and bottomless pins coladas). Andrew insisted on putting a ring on my finger that day, so we rented 4-wheelers and rode to a neighboring village. We found the perfect little trinket from a street vendor and he slid that ring on my hand to seal the deal. The day was perfectly us. We have been living happily ever after.
Amy Ruccio, Bethlehem
My husband and I have known each other since we were in elementary school and our families have been intertwined since before we were even born. We ended up drifting apart and going our separate ways until we met again by fate in 2017. He walked from the lakes region in NH to Littleton NH in the pouring rain to be with me. In 2019 he surprised me with a trip to Hampton Beach to see Josh Turner at the Ballroom. For months before the show he tried to contact Josh Turner to try to get up on stage during his show and ask me to be his wife, but no one responded to his attempts so he ended up getting down on one knee on the rooftop of our beachfront hotel at sunset and asked me to be his wife and I obviously said yes. It was one of the best days of my life.
